How to Respec in Enshrouded 1.0
Quick answer: open a Flame Altar in your base and use its Reset Skill option. It refunds every skill point on your tree at a cost of 1 Rune per spent point (official wiki), and it's all-at-once — the game has no single-skill refund. Everything on this page is sourced; the cheapest respec is the one you rehearse for free in the planner.

Step by step
- Bank some Runes. Runes drop from defeated enemies — a mid-sized build (40–60 points) needs 40–60 Runes for a full reset.
- Plan the new build first. Open the planner, load your current points, and re-spend freely — right-click refunds any rank, and the share link saves the plan. Cost of mistakes here: zero.
- Reset at the Flame Altar. Interact with your Flame Altar, choose the Reset Skill option, confirm — then re-buy the plan you rehearsed.
What the reset costs, and where the number comes from
The official Enshrouded wiki's Flame Altar page states that the altar "allows players to reset their skill tree at a cost of 1 Runes per spent skill point" (CC BY-SA 4.0). Older community guides from early Early Access list a flat 10-Rune fee — pricing changed during Early Access, which is exactly why we cite the current official source instead of repeating old numbers.
One quirk worth knowing: the reset is all-or-nothing. You cannot shave off one wrong node — everything goes back into your pool and you re-buy the whole tree (paying Runes for every point it contained). That makes planning before you reset genuinely cheaper than resetting twice.
Version-forced resets: Update 8 and 1.0
Keen Games has twice reset everyone's tree for free as part of reworking it — quoted verbatim from the official changelogs:
"When loading an existing savegame from update 7 or older, the skill tree is reset. All available skill points are refunded for redistribution. We know, we know, but trust us. It's worth it."
"When playing for the first time in version 1.0.0.0 with an existing save game, the skill tree will be reset. Please make sure to spend the skill points again!"
In both cases the reset was free (it's the manual Flame Altar respec that costs Runes) — but it did force everyone to re-spend from zero, which is why most players now keep a saved planner link for their build before patch day. See also the full 1.0 skill change list.
FAQ
How do you respec in Enshrouded?
Interact with a Flame Altar in your base and choose the Reset Skill option. It resets your entire skill tree and refunds all skill points for redistribution — there is no per-skill refund in game (the community has asked for one-by-one respec as a quality-of-life feature, which confirms the current system is all-at-once).
How much does respeccing cost in Enshrouded 1.0?
Per the official Enshrouded wiki (Flame Altar page), resetting skills costs 1 Rune per spent skill point — so a 100-point build costs 100 Runes. Community guides from early in Early Access list a flat 10-Rune fee; the pricing changed during Early Access and the wiki's current version prices it per point.
Can I refund a single skill point?
Not in game — the Flame Altar reset is all-at-once. The free workaround is to plan here in our skill tree planner, where right-clicking any node refunds its ranks instantly and the link carries your whole build.
Did Enshrouded 1.0 reset skill trees?
Yes — the official changelog states: "When playing for the first time in version 1.0.0.0 with an existing save game, the skill tree will be reset. Please make sure to spend the skill points again!" Update 8 (Forging the Path) did the same thing when it rebuilt the tree, so 1.0 players have now been through two forced full respecs.
Where do I get Runes for respeccing?
Runes are Enshrouded's currency, dropped by defeated enemies. Playing normally banks plenty for occasional respecs — the cost only stings if you reset a fully-maxed 100+ point build every day.
